A tongue tie (ankyloglossia) is a band of tissue on the undersurface of the tongue that connects to the floor of the mouth. If it is short, tight, or connects towards the tip of the tongue, it may hinder the movement of the tongue. This can lead to difficulty feeding for a newborn and also hinder speech development later in life. Clipping the tongue tie is a quick, safe, and nearly painless procedure that can correct these problems.
