Jon Mallen-St. Clair, MD, PhD is a board-certified otolaryngologist and fellowship-trained surgeon specializing in head and neck cancer and reconstructive surgery. He is trained in the medical and surgical management of all aspects of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery.
Expertise
As a head and neck surgeon trained in microvascular reconstruction, Dr. Mallen-St. Clair strives to improve the quality of life of head and neck cancer patients by focusing on functional outcomes and innovative minimally invasive approaches. Dr. Mallen-St. Clair specializes in the surgical treatment of both benign and malignant head and neck tumors, as well as the surgical management of thyroid, parathyroid, and salivary disease. He has expertise in microvascular reconstruction of the head and neck and is highly skilled in minimally invasive techniques, including transoral robotic surgery (TORS).
Education
After receiving his undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Mallen-St. Clair was awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health Medical Scientist Training Program to study the role of chronic inflammation in cancer. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. from New York University School of Medicine, and completed a 5-year residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles. He received further subspecialty training at the University of California San Francisco in advanced head and neck oncologic and microvascular reconstructive surgery.
