Cleft Lip and Palate Disorders
Cleft lip and palate disorders are common congenital conditions characterized by a separation or gap in the upper lip (cleft lip) and/or the roof of the mouth (cleft palate). These conditions result from incomplete fusion of the facial structures during fetal development, leading to openings that can affect the appearance and function of the face and oral cavity. Individuals with cleft lip and palate disorders may experience challenges with feeding, speech development, dental health, ear infections, and social interactions.
Treatment typically involves a multidisciplinary approach, including surgical repair to close the clefts, speech therapy to address communication difficulties, orthodontic care, dental treatments, and ongoing medical follow-up to monitor growth and development.
